Remembering Stu.
Stu has always brought pleasure into the lives of the people around him. Whether riding together with his constant smile and joy, or building trails together and adding fun features for others to enjoy. We are blessed to have spent so much time with Stu over the years. Stu has given the mountain bike community here in Brisbane so much pleasure through his hard work and love of trail building, and we will all continue to enjoy our time in the forest doing what we love, thanks to our very special friend Stu. I am not alone when I recall the many occasions when I was in the forest on my bike and stumbled across Stu, either riding or digging. This has been a regular occurrence for many of us for many years. And it always goes the same way. A chat, a laugh, and a better day. Stu will always be with us when we ride, when we dig and when we appreciate how fortunate we are to have him in our lives. Thank you for everything Stu. Your friends in the forest.

While I didn’t know Stu beyond a passing trail chat, he was one of those familiar, reassuring presences on the trails you frequently exchange a few friendly words with mid-ride. I first me Stu at a trailcare day many years ago. Since then we have spoken dozens of times on the trail. Our riding schedules must have aligned, it felt like nearly every ride, I’d see him either where we parked our cars or somewhere along the trail. Whether he was riding or tidying up the trail drains or fixing a feature, he was always up for a chat. We chatted about the trails, the world or just how we were doing. It was such a familiar and comfortable situation that I never realised that we had never exchanged names. I wish that I knew his name earlier, but the trails will always carry his name for me. Every one of my favourite digs is with you Stu. Even just bumping into you in the forest was a treat. My kids would tell me they saw you and chatted. And sure enough, an hour or so later I'd get a message from you telling me you'd seen them and how great they are. You create joy mate. Your friend, Mike.
