Song of the Sullen Rain

In the hush of the sullen rain,
Where shadows cling to silent streets,
A melody of muted pain
In every drop that softly beats.

Each teardrop falls with whispered sighs,
A chorus of the heart’s lament,
Echoing the cloudy skies,
In sorrow’s gentle firmament.

Upon the world, a grayish shroud,
Veils the light of yesterday,
As rain sings softly, not too loud,
In its mournful, soothing ballet.

Let the rain’s embrace console,
In its rhythmic, tender flow,
Healing wounds upon the soul,
In the weeping’s gentle glow.
